Developed in collaboration with the European Youth Forum, this course is designed to equip youth workers, educators, and environmental enthusiasts with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to engage young people in climate policy and sustainability initiatives effectively. Through comprehensive training modules, interactive learning activities, and a digital toolkit, participants will explore key environmental topics, including climate change, water scarcity, food waste, and pollution, while also discovering practical approaches to promote sustainable practices such as zero waste and green living.

Target Groups
  • Youth Workers of NGOs and Environmental-Based Organizations: Those individuals actively involved in youth development and engagement programs within non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and environmental organizations.
  • Young People (Aged 14 - 18 Years Old): The course aims to educate and engage young people in environmental issues and sustainability initiatives, empowering them to become active participants in building a greener society.
  • Educators and Teachers: This includes educators working in schools, institutes, and vocational education and training (VET) schools who are responsible for delivering environmental education and integrating sustainability principles into their teaching practices.
  • Schools and Institutes: The course targets educational institutions interested in enhancing their environmental education curriculum and promoting sustainability initiatives among students and staff.
  • NGOs and Environmental Organizations: Organizations focused on environmental advocacy, education, and conservation efforts, aiming to equip their staff with the knowledge and tools necessary to engage youth in environmental activism and sustainability projects.

Curriculum

The course is structured to cater to two distinct audiences, ensuring tailored content delivery for optimal engagement and impact.

For Youth Workers

  • Module 1: Climate Change - Understanding climate change science and effective communication strategies for youth engagement.
  • Module 2: Water Waste and Scarcity - Addressing global water issues and promoting sustainable water management practices.
  • Module 3: Food Waste - Tackling food waste's environmental impact and fostering sustainable food consumption habits.
  • Module 4: Pollution and Health - Exploring pollution's effects on health and strategies for pollution prevention and mitigation.

For Young People (Aged 14 - 18 Years Old)

  • Module 5: Sustainable Living - Empowering youth to adopt sustainable lifestyles and make eco-conscious choices.
  • Module 6: Zero Waste - Introducing zero waste living and practical tips for waste reduction.
  • Module 7: Upcycling - Promoting creativity through upcycling and sustainable design practices.
  • Module 8: Green Future - Inspiring environmental stewardship and advocacy for a greener future.

Evaluation methods

The evaluation method for this course will involve the development of a self-assessment quiz as part of the Open Educational Resource (OER) for young people. Upon completion of the quiz, participants will receive immediate feedback and be awarded a badge, encouraging engagement and tracking individual progress.


Certification

The certification for this course will include a digital badge awarded upon successful completion of the self-assessment quiz included in the Open Educational Resource (OER) for young people. This badge serves as a recognition of the participant's engagement and proficiency in the course content related to climate action and sustainability. Additionally, participants may receive a certificate of completion for the overall course, acknowledging their participation and achievement in acquiring knowledge and skills related to promoting sustainable development.
